Families (5)

Now you are ready for a family discussion. Depending on the ages of your children, you may want to make a game out of the discussion. If the children are older, it can be just a straight discussion but even then a game like experience might be more relaxed.

Put the values and practices that you identified yesterday on separate cards and try to add at least five other acceptable values or practices that someone else might have. Now, tell the family that you have five values relating to money that as parents you think are important but you want each of them to see if they can pick those out from the 10 – 12 values that are on the cards.

Each is to make their own list first and then share them as a family. As they are shared, have the person explain why they think these may be the ones their parents picked. When they are finished, the parents share the ones they have picked.

Now let each member of the family, including the parents, pick one of the cards and develop a practice for their family that they think would demonstrate that value or practice. Along with explaining the practice, that person should also explain how they think that such a practices is supported by their Christian faith.

Out of this discussion, try to identify at least one change in family life that the whole family agrees might be good
