A PARABLE OF THE SNAMUH
The first sign came from Astronomers who noted the movement of objects in the sky.
It was soon confirmed that they were intelligently guided.
Soon sky gazers all over the world were noting their approach.
Here was the first evidence of intelligent life beyond our planet.
Speculation was rampant as to whether this would be a friendly or hostile visit.
The military in major countries were put on alert.
Most earthly conflict either was put aside or resolved in light of what seemed a greater threat.
Soon several large, visible spaceships assumed an orbit around the earth and several smaller ships emerged from them and entered the earth’s atmosphere.
When these ships entered our atmosphere, jet fighters were launched but attempts at communication seemed unsuccessful.
A Russian jet fired a warning shot near one of the ships.
A strange light immediately issued from that spaceship coming approximately the same distance from the jet fighter but neither ship seemed harmed. They both had been warned.
The spaceships dispersed themselves and assumed a position over the capitols of the major nations of the world.
Some major pundits from nations whose capitols were not selected immediately protested the fact that they had been ignored.
The populations of those cities that were targeted were in an immediate panic and many of the wealthier members began to evacuate the cities.
Jet fighters from the various nations tried to take up a defensive position but were cautioned not to engage without provocation.
It soon became apparent that the ships were observing but had no immediate interest in landing or in communication.
By this time, all the cities being observed agreed that they must work in concert to determine if the ships were a threat to earth.
After a couple of weeks of this un-nerving stand-off, the ships began emitting a series of lights and a strange humming sound accompanied by a slight vibration.
Extra-Terrestrial experts from various countries declared that the ships were trying to communicate, but they weren’t sure of the language.
Stephen Spielberg was even consulted to see if the theory he used in his movie, ET, might suggest that they were trying to communicate by musical tones.
New religious cults emerged claiming to have been lifted up into the ships and reporting all sorts of colorful details about the inhabitants.
After two months of paralyzing waiting, when budgets had to be revised to cover the fuel being expended by our jets, there was a sudden change in activity.
Experts concluded that the ships had spent their time learning the different languages.
The ships began broadcasting over each capitol in a rather mechanical voice but in the majority language of that city.
Some religious groups declared that this was a new Pentecost experience.
They explained that in the Pentecost experience in Acts, each of the groups heard the message of the disciples in their own languages.
Now, again, each of the cities heard the message in their own language.
And, they pointed out, in cities with diverse populations, the message was heard in multiple languages.
It was a one-way broadcast. The ships would not respond to any messages sent their way.
The major message was that they came from another star system. They did not wish humans any harm, but that they expected humans to act in compliance with instructions that they would issue.
After three weeks of broadcasting these messages, the ships began to land.
Government circles declared that this was an invasion from outer space
Some conspiracy groups declared that this was all a hoax devised by an evil nation seeking to test out a new weapon and wanting to gain control of the world.
It was difficult to overcome old mindsets and unite together.
Each nation made preparation to resist with their most sophisticated weapons.
All illusions and propaganda were eliminated when the doors of the crafts began to open simultaneously all over the world.
Non-human creatures began to emerge.
In a mechanical voice, they declared themselves to be the Snamuh people.
While the objects that the Snamuh held in what served as their hands were clearly different from anything seen before, it had to be assumed that they were carrying weapons.
Both sides were very tense.
The mechanical voice, heard in diverse languages, informed the humans in various locations around the earth that they need not be afraid, but they did need to put down their weapons.
All human commanders responded with counter instructions to the Snamuh that they should lower their weapons first.
At one point of heightened fear, one of the commanders ordered a series of warning shots.
The Snamuh interpreted that as an aggressive act, and they immediately began firing as well.
Soon both sides were firing at will at the other side.
At first it did not dawn on anyone what was happening but slowly both sides began to realize that their weapons had no negative effect on the enemy.
It became clear that though they were physically present to the other, they were incapable of inflicting harm on the other.
The commanders of both the humans and the aliens soon ordered a cease fire and reported to their superiors.
They soon discovered that sites all over the world had had similar experiences.
Since neither side was able to harm the other with weapons, at first, they simply stared at each other across a 100-yard divide.
Then one who appeared to be a commander of the Snamuh emerged from the spaceship and took several steps closing the distance with the opposing side.
Speaking into some device that he was holding, the eerie mechanical voice that had been previously heard began to be broadcast.
We do not understand why you seem to be unharmed by our weapons and we to yours.
We are clearly superior and invite you to submit to our commands.
We would rather die than be slaves to monsters from outer space, a human commander responded with more bravado than he felt.
As it became clear that weapons had no effect, some reporters and even families of military personnel began to emerge from hiding to get a closer look.
As humans and the Snamuh began to speak to each other, it soon became clear that their words seem to have the opposite of their intended effect.
“What do you want” translated into “What can I offer you.”
“Don’t come any closer” became, “Can I embrace you.”
Then people began to notice that the same reversals began to affect the emotions as well.
When a person emoted fear, it seemed to create a feeling of trust in the other person.
A child smiled and held up his hands to give a hug and the Snamuh reacted in fear.
Slowly it became clear that while neither could physically harm the other, they must reverse their emotions and words if they were to communicate with each other.
Since it is hard to act lovingly towards one that you fear and it is frustrating to try to hate someone and have them think you are being loving, there was a great deal of confusion.
To befriend your true self, you must face and communicate with your darker side as well.
