Every year the church stewardship committee tries to come up with a new way to approach the stewardship campaign. The way I see it, the Bible has several different types of stewardship plans.
There is the Widow plan where you ask the poorest members to fund the budget while the rich share some of their loose change. (Mark 12:41-44)
There is the Jesus plan where you sell all you have, give the proceeds to the poor, and trust God to give us this day our daily bread. (Mark 10:17-22)
There there is the Acts Plan where the church asks you to tell them about your recent business deals and share the proceeds with the whole church. The only problem with this plan is that if you lie about what profit you made, you die. (Acts 5:1-11)
This faith business is serious. You want to say, “Jesus, you can’t be serious.” But how would you feel if Jesus responded, “Naw, I was just joking, Give a few loose coins and spend the rest on increasing the pile of stuff that you don’t need.”
