ENGAGING CHURCH MEMBERS

  1. Tell me a little about your connection with the church.

Are you a man or woman?

  • Would you consider yourself:

                A young adult

               A middle aged adult

               A Senior adult

  • How would you describe yourself?

I’m devoted and want to grow in the Christian Faith.

I come for my family’s sake.

I am culturally a Christian but don’t have a deep faith.

My main focus is to participate in a friendly community and avoid all tensions.

  • What is your experience with being part of a church?

I’ve always been active in a church.

I was inactive but found a new start in this church.

               I’m a casual attender.

I enjoy some of the friends I see at church.

  1. If you were to invite a friend to your church, name 3-4 features of the church you would point to.  EG, programs, special ministries, type of people, quality of worship, music, etc.
  2. Identify briefly 3-4 items you would share
  3. If God chose to gather people into this church with special gifts, what are some of the gifts that you see in our membership that might indicate part of God’s intention for putting us together.
  4. Name 3-4 gifts you see in our membership:
  5. If Jesus is our example, what are factors you see in how Jesus responded when he engaged in actions that might cause controversy among others?

Give 3-4 brief examples from Jesus’ life.

  • If Jesus were to address our congregation about the issue of racism in the Christian church, what are 2-3 ways Jesus might speak to us.

You can either quote Scripture or paraphrase what you recall from Jesus in Scripture.

  • If there are some suspicious elements in our church’s history, are we best served by avoiding the subject or making use of the practice of Confession of sins and Hearing Christ’s offer of forgiveness as we proceed?

Make 3-4 brief statements of what you believe.

  • If Jesus sees racism as a sin in both the church and society, and affirming that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, what are 2-3 actions or ministries that you could see our church with its multiple gifts beginning to implement.

Knowing that Scripture describes God as working through imperfect people and communities, would you support our church addressing the sin of racism even if we did it imperfectly?
