clergy Drop Out – Physical Health (2)

We need to be intentional about getting some exercise and look for ways to do it in and around our daily routine. Here are some suggestions to spark your imagination.
1. Think of housecleaning as an opportunity to do some bending and stretching.
2. Skip the elevator during hospital visits and choose the stairs.
3. Instead of meeting a friend for lunch, suggest meeting and talking with them while you are walking.
4. Instead of driving around seeking the closest parking space, deliberately choose one that is further away and do a little walking. However, do remember where you parked or you may do a lot of walking.
5. Instead of a riding mower, choose a push mower, and a snow shovel instead of a snowplough. Both of these activities can get your heart beating pretty quickly. Do be careful as you begin, however, not to overdo it.
6. Be considerate of your neighbors and choose to rake your leaves instead of choosing the noisiest leaf blower in the neighborhood.
7. Walk or ride a bike to work or when you are visiting members. You will be preaching a sermon on the environment while you improve your health.
8. Group your errands so that you can include some extra walking while you are shopping. Sometimes shopping can be good for you as long as you don’t succumb to the temptation to reward yourself with a high calorie drink.
9. Instead of being a couch potato in front of the TV, make use of an exercise machine while you are watching your favorite program. It’s a great way to ease the guilt of workaholics while you are still enjoying your program.
10. Make a regular appointment with a friend to play tennis, basketball, etc. When someone else is expecting you, you are not as likely to find an excuse not to go.

Tomorrow, ten more ideas. But you can also add your own.
