Communion is a re-participation in our story. Christ comes to us again and again and addresses our situation. Are we separated from someone and need reconciled? Are we willing to make a seemingly hopeless sacrifice, as did Jesus, to break down the dividing walls of hostility? Do we trust that God can take our living sacrifice as a worthy offering and effect renewed communion? Are we grateful for the gift of life and the future promise that not even death can defeat? Are we willing to receive the healing that Christ effected through his sacrifice and allow ourselves to be reconciled to God and God’s purpose? Imagine how these types of questions get confronted in the life of an individual who comes to the table.
Tomorrow we will look at a parabolic story of how re-participation might look.
