For the second experience based on the Lord’s Prayer, I would suggest the petition “Give us this day our daily bread.” There is a basic justice issue in a world in which many do not have even the most basic food to meet their hunger. As Gandhi once said, “The world produces enough to meet everyone’s need, just not enough to meet everyone’s greed.”
For this weeks chain email to your colleagues, consider one simple act that you can do on behalf of the hungry of the world. It may be as simple as making a contribution to one of the ministries that feed the hungry. It might be writing a letter to Congress protesting the cutting of funds on behalf of the most vulnerable. It might be encouraging your congregation to take an act on behalf of the hungry. It might even be buying a meal for one of those who are begging on the street. I once did that by inviting one of them to eat with me at Wendy’s and had a fascinating conversation. Whatever it is, share it with your colleagues as a personal commitment.
Again, as you receive their commitments, enter into a brief time of prayer for them and for yourself. Consider the impact of every Christian across the world being committed to assisting another person in having his or her daily bread. Let it begin with you.
