My wife of fifty-three years died on November 30th. My Advent was clearly a part of a “people who walked in darkness.” The four weeks of Advent have been a dark journey for me. Yet the support of my family (Two daughters, a son-in-law, and two adult grandchildren) and the contact with and support of friends from both my past and present has sustained me.
LOOKING FOR LIGHT IN DARKNESS
Now on this day, clearly the darkest Christmas in my life, I cling to the faith that says “the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” It isn’t the phrases that people often speak at such times, but the friendships that help me hold on and look for that light.
Christmas for me is not just a romantic story of a little baby in a manger, but a genuine hope that light will be born, not just in my life but also in our fractured church and confused nation and among the nations.
Well said, Steve. We share a part of your grief, though just a small part. We miss your Sandy and consider it a privilege to walk with you on this sad journey, believing that the road will end in the light of God’s eternity where we shall be with her once more. Christmas Blessings to you and your family.
