Why Mystery Writing With a Spiritual Edge Addresses a Hunger in Society

LIVE IN AN AGE OF ANXIETY

Society appears overwhelmed with challenges.

Economic structures seem torn by corruption and greed

Violence around the world and in our streets seems out of control.

Institutions keep being exposed with scandals

Wall Street, college sports programs, churches, dot com scams are everywhere.

Violence, lust, and greed seem to triumph over peace, love, and generosity.

FASCINATION WITH CHAOS

The public seems fascinated with Dystopia, teetering on the edge of chaos in both books and movies.

In rebellion against an overly rationale world, people seek out images of powerful forces from outside our rationale world.

From Harry Potter, to fascination with Vampires, and alien invasions.

SUPER HEROES

We seem in search for someone to rescue us. ET, Superman, Spiderman, are media heroes from outside.

Religious Gurus offer us secrets to access power from another realm.

GOOD MYSTERIES WITH A SPIRITUAL EDGE

Good mysteries celebrate the triumph of the human spirit.

The protagonist faces the chaos of our society and discovers the secret that can restore order.

Mysteries that contain a spiritual element suggest how the visible world and invisible world can work together for good.

They celebrate how the human spirit can flip the threats to chaos around and restore the logic of our world. They also challenge us to think through problems and seek new answers.

A STAR AND A TEAR

My mystery novel, A Star and a Tear, seeks to combine our love of mysteries with our yearning for the spiritual. It is a story about a pastor who emerges out of a period of personal grief to assist the police in tracking down a serial rapist with a religious fixation. . Since when did the church becmoe about our glory? I don’t have any bad church experiences so I’m not bitter but I sure can understand how someone could be tempted to be in a church like that. I am glad that God doesn’t let us be, no matter how much we seem entitled to it He is so good!
