As part of Presbytery’s support of our pastor’s spiritual journey, what if we built on Scripture’s declaration that each of us are graced with different gifts of the Spirit that are to be used for the upbuilding of the Body of Christ. (See 1 Corinthians 14:1ff) Would there not be value in trying to discern the different spiritual gifts that exist among our clergy in any given presbytery.
I’m not referring to the gifts that we think we have but the gifts that others see in us. It might first be done by simply asking each of the clergy to consider the spiritual gifts that they see among the other clergy. It would be interesting to see what particular gifts seem to be recognized by our clergy friends.
Since Scripture declares that each of us have been given gifts, it would also be important to offer an experience in which we speak to individuals about the gifts we see in them. There could be some valuable nurturing that takes place in such an exchange.
Then, having recognized some of the particular gifts that exist in our part of the body, could there not be some strategizing to enable those mentioned to exercise their gifts on behalf of the larger body.
