When were you First Aware
As you join me in this racial awareness journey, think back on when the issue of race began to affect your life. Think back to when you first talked to someone about skin color. Were you speaking to a Caucasian or someone of color? Was it an adult or someone closer to your age? Was it a negative or positive reflection?
My Memories Accepted the World as it was
Some of my early conversations were with other Caucasian friends and it was usually about how they lived in another section of town, or what they could or couldn’t do. It wasn’t so much a judgment but an assumption that that was the way the world was.
Being Aware of the Pain
As I develop my project to assist church people to engage in this conversation, I seek to offer a process that will enable all of us to be more aware of the restrictions and personal pain that my Black friends experience. I also want us to be able to talk about how racism affects our lives as well. If you were designing such an experience for your church, what are some ways that you would do that?
