PROMISED LAND
On the fourth day of our journey reflecting on race in our lives and society, I want you to take some moments to think about two things: First, what would be the result of our world getting beyond racism? Name two or three ways that life would be different if racial diversity was experienced as an advantage rather than a problem.
Second, consider elements of the faith that shape or should shape our response to healing these divisions. What Christian beliefs encourage and sustain you in confronting racism in your life and society. Make a list of four to five beliefs.
What you are doing is beginning to conceive of a Promised Land towards which we might journey. Like the Israelites as they journeyed across their wilderness, keeping the vision in mind towards which we are journeying can give us both courage and energy. As Viktor Frankl reminds us in Man’s Search for Meaning, if you have a strong enough WHY, you can endure almost any how, but without a clear grasp on the WHY, almost any barrier is too high.
