When God deliberately chose to express the eternal Word first in the creation of all things and then in the flesh and blood of one man, God revealed the sacramental quality of all created things. The physical world is not a barrier to the spiritual but a window on to the eternal.
The church has been set in the midst of a world that is powerfully shaped by its relationship to wealth. Here we are invited to make our witness. The church, as the Body of Christ, wrestles with the issue of money in this world.
Sometimes churches have gathered great wealth to themselves and at other times they have deliberately tried to avoid any kind of possessions. Yet neither path either assured them of being the perfect window onto the eternal or prevented them from being the source of God’s revelation.
Again we will look at the history of Highland Presbyterian for signs of how the Word of God is incarnated in the human organization of a church.
